General Surgery
General Surgery Student Rotation
Welcome to your surgery rotation at Mount Carmel!
This rotation is not designed to make you fall in love with surgery (but if that happens, that’s ok – don’t deny true love), it is intended to give you an overview of typical general surgery cases and management of various surgical conditions. You will be asked to be involved, to the best of your abilities, and to take a proactive approach in patient care. The most important objective of this rotation is for you to learn. The more you are involved, the more you will learn.
During your rotation, it is not expected that you see every procedure, as you will only be with us a short time. However, if there is a specific surgery/procedure that you have interest in seeing, let the residents know at the beginning of the month and we will try to accommodate your request.
Let this manual be your guide toward expectations while on service with us. If any questions are not answered in this manual, please feel free to ask any of the residents.
Before the end of your rotation (a few days in advance), please give us your personal evaluation about the surgery residents with whom you spent the most time. You will be asked to evaluate the rotation from your standpoint as well. Please be honest.
