Alert Details
- We ask that EMS transmit their EKG or call the ED to notify us that they have a STEMI as soon as possible to start the alert process.
- When a STEMI alert is called via EMS, the cath lab team is activated.
- Each site has an emergent cath lab and interventionalist on call 24/7. Both are activated when a STEMI alert is called to allow for simultaneous transport of the patient and our team.
- We do cardiac interventions and open-heart surgery at all 3 hospitals (MCE, MCGC, MCSA).
- ER bypass is possible during normal hours of operation depending on the patient/situation.
- Important things we need from EMS for STEMIs:
- Pre-arrival EKG
- Run sheets with:
- Time you first laid eyes on the patient (FMC)
- Dispatch time
- Time you left the scene
- Time aspirin was administered
- Initial BP and HR
- Time of symptom onset
- EMS are invited to stay to watch their patient’s procedure in the lab when their schedule allows.
