Program Highlights
The Mount Carmel Orthopedic Residency Program offers an excellent educational experience. The highlights of the program include:
Education Experience
- Fully functional Arthroscopic skills lab including Knee and Shoulder models.
- Sawbones Laboratory with complete representation of sawbones models, fractures and different current fixation implants for hands-on experience.
- Early operative experience.
- Exceptional academic curriculum and conference schedule (see weekly conference overview).
- All rotations take place in Columbus; residents are never required to leave their families and homes for rotations out of the city.
- Dedicated time for the study of Orthopedic Basic Science and Anatomy.
- Optional research elective.
- Optional elective in the orthopedic subspecialty of choice as Chief Resident.
- Well-rounded exposure to orthopedic subspecialty areas, including faculty members with fellowship training in the following areas:
- Adult Reconstruction
- Foot and Ankle
- Hand and Upper Extremity
- Orthopedic Traumatology
- Pediatric Orthopedics
- Spine
- Sports Medicine
- Shoulder and Elbow Surgery
Facilities and Support Staff
- Health science library with three full-time librarians.
- New office space to accommodate all orthopedic residents.
- Dedicated orthopedic inpatient unit, with subspecialty orthopedic nurses.
- Supportive Medical Education Department.
- Formal instruction in statistical design and analysis, and access to biostatistician for assistance with manuscript preparation.
- Resident fitness area.
- Dedicated orthopedic mid-level providers to assist with patient care.
