When nursing is your life's calling, sometimes it means hitting pause on a much-deserved vacation. This was the case for Jennie M., a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at Mount Carmel Medical Group New Albany.

While on a trip to Mexico, Jennie was enjoying some poolside rest and relaxation when she heard a scream. As an LPN with over 10 years of training and experience, she ran straight toward the sound to see how she could help. When Jennie arrived at the scene, she saw a toddler being pulled from the pool, unresponsive and without a pulse. She knew that time was of the essence and immediately started performing CPR on the little girl, eventually succeeding after a few trying rounds. With the help of the lifeguard on duty, Jennie administered oxygen to the child, staying with her until she could be evaluated by the resort’s medical staff. The little girl was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, but was back in the pool the very next day, swimming as happily as she had before.

Thank you, Jennie, for going above and beyond the call of duty wherever you are. Because of you, a very lucky child is alive today. And we’re lucky, too. To have you.
