As a passerby was walking from the parking garage toward the Mount Carmel West Medical Staff Building, she saw an elderly woman in a wheelchair rolling out of control down the slope of the emergency department turnaround.

As helplessly startling as that sight was, what she saw next was truly amazing. Tyler, a Mount Carmel College of Nursing student, ran over and caught the woman right before her wheelchair hit the curb, saving her from what would certainly have been a serious injury. He then calmly wheeled her over to a safe spot by one of the nearby benches.

Thanks, Tyler. Because of you and your amazing quickness, another one of our patients was able to leave Mount Carmel healthier than when she arrived. With quick thinking like that, you’re going to make a great nurse!
