Spinal Compression Fractures
Spinal Compression Fracture
Spinal compression fractures are some of the most painful and problematic spine conditions we treat. Also known as vertebral compression fractures (VCF), spinal compression fractures are breaks in the bones that make up the spinal column. They often result from weakened bone caused by osteoporosis and can be triggered by simply bending down and forward.
Among the most common risk factors for spinal compression fractures are:
- Osteoporosis
- Spinal injuries
- Certain types of cancer or spinal tumors
Symptoms may include:
- Worsening pain while walking or standing
- Difficulty bending or twisting at the waist
- Lost height
- Arched back
- Digestive issues, including constipation, diminished appetite, or weight loss
- Hip pain
- Difficulty breathing
Bed rest and wearing a back brace are two of the most common treatments for spinal fractures. Our specialists also have expertise in treatments for osteoporosis, pain management, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and spinal fusion. Our neurointerventional team specializes in vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty.
