Lung Cancer
Mount Carmel gives lung patients hope. Lung cancer is one of medicine's most dreaded diagnoses because it’s generally not found until the tumors are large enough to cause symptoms – when the cancer is at an advanced stage. Because of you, Mount Carmel has created a Lung Program to be part of the solution.
Our coordinated, individualized approach to lung cancer screening and treatment combines the expertise of physicians from thoracic surgery, pathology, diagnostic radiology, pulmonology, medical oncology and radiation oncology to design a treatment plan that’s unique to you, your needs and your circumstances.
We offer state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services for lung tumors, including computerized tomography (CT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), and percutaneous and endoscopic biopsies to identify potential lung cancers in their earliest stages, maximize detection and removal of malignant tumors, and minimize unnecessary surgeries.
When surgery is necessary, our goal is to remove the primary tumor and all affected tissue without sacrificing your healthy lung tissue. And if you have an inoperable tumor, we employ chemotherapy and radiation to relieve symptoms and extend your survival.
We also have support programs in place, including our expert Oncology Nurse Navigators, who will walk you through each step of the treatment, recovery and survivorship processes with intelligence and compassion.
