Our team of skilled, experienced, board-certified urologists includes surgeons and other medical professionals with expertise in treating a wide range of male and female urological conditions.

Our urologists also are actively involved in developing and advancing new technologies that provide safer, more effective treatments. Chief among them is our routine use of minimally invasive urological surgical techniques. Using the daVinci robotic surgical system in tandem with laparoscopy allows Mount Carmel surgeons to operate incredibly precisely in very small spaces and perform delicate surgeries like radical prostatectomy without damaging the delicate structures and nerves nearby.


Robotic Prostatectomy

In a prostatectomy, a cancerous prostate gland and surrounding tissue are removed. Traditionally, this procedure required a long abdominal incision, resulted in significant blood loss and pain and required several days in the hospital. Today, this surgery is now commonly preformed using the da Vinci Surgical System, where four or five small incisions are made in the abdomen. Robotic prostatectomy is preferred by many surgeons because it affords a higher level of precision in delicate parts of procedure which preserve the nerves responsible for erections and ensure normal bladder functions.

Transsurethral Prostatectomy

A Transurethral Prostatectomy is used to treat severe symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate. An enlarged prostate is believed to be part of the normal aging process in men and usually is not problematic. However, in some cases, an enlarged prostate may squeeze or block the urethra and cause problems urinating and, in a small number of cases, may lead to bladder infections, bladder stones or kidney damage. In a transurethral prostatectomy, a part of the prostate gland is removed through the urethra.

Pyeloplasty

Pyeloplasty is a procedure to treat a rare condition known as ureteropelvic junction obstruction in which the flow of urine is blocked at the juncture between the kidney and the ureter which carries carries urine to the bladder. Normally, the condition is repaired using a large incision in the patient's back. When performed robotically, the procedure requires only three small incisions. Patients benefit from a shorter hospital stay, less pain and blood loss and a shorter recovery time.

Green Light Vaporization

Green Light Laser Vaporization is used to treat an enlarged prostate gland that is blocking the ureter and causing bladder problems such as difficulty urinating or a frequent urge to urinate. During the procedure, a laser beam is used to open a channel to allow the free flow of urine.
