Therapeutic Options for Clinicians

COVID-19 Vaccine

Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is an important step you can take to keep you and your family safe. Currently, Mount Carmel is scheduling appointments for eligible individuals through our MCMG outpatient provider offices and our Outpatient Pharmacist Care Clinics. Eligibility details and appointment scheduling are below:

The Covid-19 vaccine is also available at select retail clinics and health providers throughout the state. To see a full list of locations offering the Covid-19 vaccine, visit the Ohio Department of Health’s website:

Outpatient Treatment of Covid-19

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) have published a clinical management summary for non-hospitalized adults with Covid-19 for non-hospitalized adults with COVID-19 for treatment as recommended for patients who are at risk for progressing to severe disease (these medical conditions are listed here via the CDC).  Mount Carmel currently does not offer molnupiravir or outpatient remdesivir treatment.

PAXLOVID Oral Antiviral

PAXLOVID (ritonavir-boosted nirmatrelvir) is an oral antiviral recommended as one of the preferred therapies by NIH available by curbside pick-up through the MCHS Retail Pharmacy located at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s (hours of operation Mon-Fri 8am to 6pm). A referral form and prescription needs submitted via fax (380-898-8141) or electronic (Mount Carmel Pharmacy located in Westerville, Ohio – 500 S. Cleveland Ave). PAXLOVID is also widely available in community pharmacies, refer to the Covid-19 Therapeutics Locator to identify locations.

The emergency use authorization (EUA) for PAXLOVID is for the treatment of mild-to-moderate Covid-19 in adult and pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40kg) with positive Covid-19 results and who are at high risk for progression to severe Covid-19, including hospitalization or death. There are several exclusion criteria for PAXLOVID, including significant drug interactions and the individual must be able to pick up their prescription to initiate therapy within 5 days of symptom onset (note, prescriptions received after hours will be reviewed the next working day).

All EUA requirements must still be met by the prescribing provider for community retail prescriptions.

Covid-19 Therapeutics Locator

The following link identifies all public locations that have received shipments of US government-procured Covid-19 therapeutics under FDA emergency use authorization (EUA). The therapeutics locator is intended for provider use and patients should not contact locations directly unless instructed to do so by their healthcare provider.
