Because You Matter

Dr. Jason Joykutty started at Mount Carmel West three years ago. Since then, he's regularly treated a heroin addict in the grips of the opioid epidemic. The patient was in and out of the hospital often, and Dr. Joykutty took the time to learn about her life and build a relationship with her. During a visit not too long ago, he had the unfortunate task of informing her that she'd been diagnosed HIV positive; he warned her that she could lose her life if she didn't get help and stay clean.

By taking the time to build this relationship, Dr. Joykutty helped the patient realize that she didn't want to lose her life and that it was time to get clean. She returned to Mount Carmel West recently, to thank Dr. Joykutty for saving her life. She was barely recognizable - looking dramatically happier and healthier.

Thanks, Dr. Joykutty. Because of you, heroin will claim one less victim in central Ohio this year. And one more patient will have the chance at a happily ever after.
