Columbus, Ohio – Mount Carmel Health System is proud to announce that The Orthopedic Foundation has officially become a part of the Mount Carmel Health System through a collaborative agreement with the Mount Carmel Research Institute and the Mount Carmel Foundation.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in Mount Carmel’s commitment to advancing clinical research and enhancing patient care across central Ohio. The Orthopedic Foundation has a distinguished legacy of neurological, orthopedic, rehabilitative and sports medicine research that brings a wealth of expertise and innovation that aligns seamlessly with Mount Carmel’s mission and vision.

“This partnership strengthens our ability to deliver the next generation of healthcare,” said Dr. Tim Graham, Chief Medical Officer, Mount Carmel Health System. “It opens new doors for clinical trials, innovative treatments, and ultimately, better outcomes for patients.”

As part of this partnership, The Orthopedic Foundation has donated $1.4 million to the Mount Carmel Foundation to support ongoing and future research initiatives. These funds will help ensure that neurological and orthopedic research programs are well-resourced and positioned for continued success.

The Orthopedic Foundation’s research operations will now be conducted under the Mount Carmel Research Institute and will be based out of the Mount Carmel Medical Group office in New Albany, Ohio.

“Since The Orthopedic Foundation’s formation in 2000, we have been focused on meaningful orthopedic and neurologic research that improves patient care and outcomes,” said Mark Gittins, DO, and Board Chair of The Orthopedic Foundation. “Partnering with Mount Carmel Health System will expand the scope and maximize the impact of this work that benefits all patients. We are excited about the what the future holds and our shared goal of improving lives.”

Among the exciting research projects underway, Dr. Martin Taylor is leading neurology trials exploring the use of Botox for migraine treatment and Dr. Mark Gittins, who has led research efforts for over 25 years at The Orthopedic Foundation, continues his work advancing robotic surgical approaches for total replacement. The partnership will also continue and expand The Orthopedic Foundation’s summer research internship program for medical students from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
