Cardiothoracic Surgery
Using the latest techniques in cardiothoracic surgery, Mount Carmel heart surgeons are among the most experienced in central Ohio and offer some of the most innovative procedures available to restore your healthy heart.
We take a multidisciplinary approach to cardiothoracic surgery, meaning our surgeons work collaboratively with our cardiologists and vascular surgeons to ensure you get the best possible treatment for you. Together they're well versed not only in established surgical techniques like coronary artery bypass surgery and heart valve repair and replacement, but also in progressive treatments like endoscopic vein harvesting, concomitant atrial fibrillation ablation, off-pump open heart surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and hybrid revascularizations.
If you have a heart rhythm disturbance that requires a surgical solution, our physicians can implant an arrhythmia control device such as a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
Mount Carmel is among the leaders in Ohio when it comes to the number of beating heart coronary artery bypass surgeries we perform, so we’re an ideal place to have this innovative procedure. Unlike traditional bypass surgery, which artificially replaces the heart's functions with a heart-lung machine, this procedure allows the heart to keep beating during surgery and may reduce complications you might otherwise experience after a traditional bypass.
If you prefer a more traditional procedure, Mount Carmel offers conventional coronary artery bypass surgery as well.
We offer a number of procedures to repair or replace defective heart valves, including innovative treatments like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
Hybrid revascularization is a combination of coronary artery bypass surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). It’s also available to you at Mount Carmel.
To facilitate these procedures and your recovery, Mount Carmel has dedicated open-heart ICUs with state-of-the-art tools and experienced staffs, so you receive the evidence-based, patient-focused care you need. Every member of our surgical team – from physicians, nurses and clinicians to nurse practitioners and physician assistants – is also specially trained to handle complex cases. And because we’re committed to continuously improving the quality of your care, we're also participants in the STS National Database Outcomes Program.
