At Mount Carmel, we believe that the well-being of our residents is just as important as the care they provide. Our program is designed to support residents physically, emotionally, and socially throughout their training. 
 

Wellness Philosophy & Support 
 

  • Resident Wellness Committee: A dedicated team of residents and faculty focused on promoting well-being and fostering a supportive culture.
  • Mission-Driven Culture: We prioritize balance, community, and compassion in everything we do.

Schedule & Time Off 

  • 4+1 Rotation Model: Ensures consistent breaks and prevents burnout by limiting continuous time on core rotations.
  • Night Float System: Replaces 24-hour call shifts to promote healthier sleep and work-life balance.
  • Protected Wellness Time: During each Y week, residents receive a half-day off for personal needs, appointments, or rest.
  • Generous PTO:  
    • PGY-1: 23 days annually
    • PGY-2 & PGY-3: 28 days annually

  • $3,000 Meal Stipend for all residents

  • Annual Resident Retreat: A new tradition—this year’s event included group zip-lining
  • Wellness Conferences: Held regularly to promote mental health, resilience, and balance
