Columbus, Ohio – Mount Carmel East announced today it has been invited to join the Linking Investigations in Trauma and Emergency Services (LITES) Research Network, which places the hospital among an elite group of trauma centers in North America. This invitation follows groundbreaking research efforts led by Dr. Chance Spalding, Andy Betz and Dr. Paul Zeeb.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Defense, the LITES Network is a $100 million research consortium coordinated through the University of Pittsburg Medical Center. It includes approximately 50 trauma centers across the United States and Canada, with a mission to advance trauma and emergency care through collaborative, high-impact research.

Mount Carmel East joins the network as one of the few community hospitals and the only Level II Trauma Center currently participating, a distinction in a network predominantly comprised of academic medical centers.

“This is a pivotal milestone for our trauma research program,” said Cameron Rink, Regional Director of Research Operations for the Mount Carmel Research Institute. “It underscores our commitment to advancing trauma care through cutting-edge, collaborative research. The work being done here will not only improve outcomes in our own communities but also contribute to trauma care nationwide.”

Participation in the LITES Network will allow Mount Carmel East to contribute to and benefit from large-scale, multi-center studies that shape the future of trauma care. Mount Carmel East’s inclusion reflects its growing reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and leadership in trauma care.
