Grief and Bereavement
Dealing with the loss of a loved one to a life-limiting illness is difficult. At Mount Carmel Hospice, that’s something we understand better than almost anyone. That’s why we provide continual, compassionate support for families through our grief counseling and professional bereavement services.
These services include support groups, short-term individual counseling, educational seminars, and bereavement literature. Mount Carmel's grief and bereavement program also provides children and their families the opportunity to work through loss together in a safe, supportive, professional setting. The goal of empathetic programs like these is to help normalize the grieving process and help families heal. And to make sure they’re available to everyone who needs them, all grief and bereavement programs are open to the community and free of charge.
Individual Counseling
If you’d find it more comforting to work through your grief in a more personal setting, Mount Carmel Hospice also offers professional individual bereavement counseling. Our licensed, masters-level social workers and counselors are trained to provide compassionate, thoughtful, and effective grief counseling through supportive listening, validation and normalization, and resilience-building techniques. It’s a confidential space where you can share your thoughts and emotions freely, without judgment, and receive the unique and personal support you need.
Groups and Education
For those who prefer the community of a group support setting, we offer a number of additional options, including:
- Monthly Grief Process Support Groups that allow you to safely discuss your feelings and gain strength from others.
- Special events and seasonal programs that address special topics like coping with grief during the holidays, using mindfulness to promote resilience, and others. These programs are available throughout the year and are listed here (link to calendar).
- Professional education, including CEU offerings, that promote a deeper awareness and understanding of grief and loss among central Ohio clinicians.
Thanks to generous support from the Mount Carmel Foundation, these and all our Bereavement programs are always offered free of charge.
