Hospice Services
At Mount Carmel, hospice services are as comprehensive as they are compassionate. Our team is available around the clock to provide almost everything you need physically, spiritually, and emotionally as you get the care and treatment you deserve.
You will have a registered nurse case manager (RNCM) and licensed social worker dedicated to your specific care and needs. The role of the RNCM is to provide overall coordination of your plan of care. They will assess, evaluate, instruct, and educate you regarding your care needs. The RNCM visits as often as needed.
The hospice benefit fully covers medications, equipment, treatment, and services related to your hospice terminal diagnosis and related conditions. This coverage is determined based on your individual hospice plan of care. We will order and supply you with any medication, supplies, and equipment you need related to your hospice diagnosis.
Pain control is key for hospice care, and we are experts in pain management. As part of the patient’s care, we will help you manage any pain symptoms they may experience. Every patient receives personal pain management therapies built to fit their unique needs. Remember, you always have a choice in how your pain will be managed.
Our team of licensed professional nurses and home health aides will provide visits to aid in bathing and personal care of patients. The nursing team will also provide instruction and education in skin and mouth care to ensure your loved one is comfortable.
Hospice patients require dietary counseling and assistance that's specific to their condition and needs. The hospice nursing team educates the patient and their family about proper food intake and nutrition. The dietary needs of hospice patients are routinely assessed and adjusted to come up with a diet that meets the needs of the patient.
Massage therapy provides a type of healing, relief, and relaxation for hospice patients to which medical treatments cannot compare. A licensed massage therapist is available to provide gentle massages to ease discomfort, relieve stress, and improve circulation in our patients.
Visitation between patients and animals promotes activity, conversation, and emotional connection. The close companionship of animals provides a relaxing and understanding presence for patients while also providing physical benefits. Our therapy dogs and other animal visitors visit wherever a patient calls home.
Our clinical care team assesses the need for special therapies and will work with you and your family to provide additional therapies needed. Physical, occupational, and speech therapies are provided on a case-by-case basis depending on an individual patient's needs and goals.
Our team of nurses and social workers are available at any time of day to help you, but they want you to feel confident in caring for your loved one as well. We will assist you and provide education and special visits to make sure you know how to use any new equipment, how to dose and dispense medication, how to recognize symptoms of discomfort, and more. We will be alongside you every step of the way.
Hospice chaplains provide spiritual care when requested to people who have a variety of backgrounds and beliefs. They provide a nonjudgmental, caring presence and may assist with spiritual or relationship needs depending on your wishes.
Mount Carmel Hospice offers a variety of services for grieving individuals and families, depending on needs. Bereavement services are provided for a minimum of thirteen months free of charge.
